Hobart Phase is an experiment in deceleration. It is constructed out of six melodic cells, repeating over and over for most of the piece. Each of the cells is constructed out of partials from the harmonic series of C1. They are initially introduced at 1000 bpm, and gradually slow down to 1 bpm over the course of several minutes.
Once their tempos bottom out, the final pitch in each cell is sustained and slowly bent down to the fundamental pitch.
The no-wave titan/experimental composer and one of the most inventive groups to come out of '90s indie rock make delightfully cacophonous collaborations together. Bandcamp Album of the Day Nov 30, 2016
